A unicorn company is a startup company that is worth more than $1 billion. The term became popular a few years ago. The vast majority of products that unicorn companies make our software, while a sizable minority make hardware.
We also refer to these companies as unicorn startups, or simply unicorns. A Decacorn company is worth over $10 billion. Hectorcorn companies are even more valuable. They are worth 100 billion dollars or more.
According to the CB insights unicorn tracker on the 22nd of January 2019. There were 310 unicorn companies around the world. In other words, there are 310 startups worth over $1 billion. Collectively they’re worth over $1050 billion. China has the most unicorn companies, followed by the United States and then India.
